BetterLife is a browser extension designed to help users reduce impulsive online spending and block access to online casino websites until completing a reflection quiz. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the BetterLife Chrome Extension and related services. By using BetterLife, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1. Account Information (Required for Login)

When you create an account with BetterLife, we collect:

Email address
Password (handled only by Supabase Auth; never stored or accessible by us)

This information is used solely for authentication and account management.

1.2. Subscription Information

Subscription purchases are processed by Stripe.

We may receive:

Subscription status (active/inactive)
Subscription plan (monthly/yearly)
Stripe customer ID (non-identifiable)

We do not receive or store payment card information.

1.3. Extension Settings (Stored Locally in Chrome Storage)

The extension saves the following preference data locally on your device:

Whether the extension is enabled
Session timer settings
Your personal note for the reflection quiz

This data never leaves your device unless explicitly synced using Chrome's default sync features.

1.4. Non-Sensitive Browsing Context

To perform its function, BetterLife needs to detect when you visit websites on a predefined list of online casinos.

For this purpose, the extension checks:

The URL of the active tab
Whether it matches a blocked domain pattern

We do not store, transmit, or log browsing history.

BetterLife does NOT collect:

Pages you visit outside the predefined gambling domains
Search queries
Keystrokes
Clicks, interactions, or any form of behavioral data

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information strictly to:

Authenticate your account
Determine whether your subscription is active
Enforce blocking and quiz logic
Store local extension settings
Provide access to your Stripe billing portal for subscription management

No collected data is sold, shared, or used for advertising.

3. Third-Party Services

3.1. Supabase (Authentication & Database)

Used for:

Secure user login
Account creation
Subscription verification

Supabase stores your email and account metadata.

Passwords are encrypted and never viewable by us.

3.2. Stripe (Payments & Billing)

Used for:

Subscription purchases
Recurring billing
Customer billing portal

We do not store payment details — Stripe handles all sensitive financial data.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or rent your personal data to third parties.

Data is only shared with:

Supabase, for authentication
Stripe, for subscription processing

Both strictly process data necessary for the service to function.

Local Storage (on your device)

Extension settings are stored only on your browser using Chrome's storage system.

Supabase Storage

Account and subscription metadata are stored securely in Supabase's managed infrastructure. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

6. User Rights

You have the right to:

Access your data
Request deletion of your account
Cancel your subscription
Update your email or account settings

How to request data deletion:

We will delete all associated Supabase records within 7 days.

7. Children's Privacy

BetterLife is not intended for individuals under 18.

We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Security Measures

We implement industry-standard security practices, including:

Encrypted Supabase authentication
Strict Content Security Policy in the extension
No remote execution of arbitrary code
Limited host permissions
No data stored beyond what is needed for core functionality

We may update this policy occasionally.

Changes take effect immediately upon posting on this page.
